Eng. Seid Shimelis
Eng. Seid Shimelis
Eng. Seid Shimelis is an accomplished irrigation and water-resources engineer with nearly three decades of experience in irrigation, drainage, dams, diversion headworks, pressurized irrigation, feasibility and detailed engineering design, project management, construction supervision and technical leadership. His career has progressed from field investigation and detailed hydraulic design to management of major irrigation developments and senior responsibility for engineering processes and multidisciplinary teams.
He holds a BSc in Irrigation Engineering and an MSc in Water Resource and Irrigation Engineering from Arba Minch University. His experience includes major assignments such as the Ziway and Raya Pressurized Irrigation Projects, Kesem-Bolhamo Sugar Development Expansion Irrigation Project, Omo Valley Farms Irrigation Project and Megech Diversion Irrigation Project, together with many small-scale irrigation, dam and headworks schemes.
Selected Engineering Achievement
Major-project management responsibility for the Ziway and Raya Pressurized Irrigation Projects, covering approximately 3,000 ha and 18,000 ha respectively, followed by management of the approximately 10,000-ha Kesem-Bolhamo irrigation expansion and the approximately 6,000-ha Omo Valley Farms Irrigation Project. This scale of responsibility was built on earlier detailed design experience in diversion weirs, intakes, micro-earth dams, irrigation infrastructure and water-resources assessment.
