About the book

Preserving an Engineering Work and Re-reading It with Experience

The HARE Irrigation Project book is based on the original 1995 engineering thesis prepared at the former Arba Minch Water Technology Institute, now Arba Minch University, by Mesfin Hagos, Mitiku Bedru, Seid Shimelis and Tamir Mitiku.

Rooted in the HARE River irrigation study near Arba Minch in southern Ethiopia, the work presents the design of diversion headworks, canal layouts, drop structures, silt-control components, drainage and associated hydraulic infrastructure.

It also addresses water-demand assessment, irrigation requirements, hydrological analysis, canal design, head regulators, cross regulators, weir design and the detailed engineering methodology used by the original team. Preserved in book form, the study serves both as a historical engineering record and as a technical reference for students, practitioners and readers interested in irrigation and water-resources development in Ethiopia.

Full cover

Front, Spine and Back as One Engineering Narrative

The cover intentionally combines the project's engineering identity with the agricultural landscape it was designed to serve: irrigation canals, diversion structures, typical canal sections and headworks drawings.

The front cover establishes the HARE project as a serious irrigation-engineering work. The spine preserves the authors and the 1995 origin. The back cover explains the technical scope and the value of preserving the study for future engineers and readers.

Original engineering team

Four Engineers, One Project, Decades of Professional Experience

The publication preserves the collective work of the four original HARE team members while linking the 1995 engineering study to the professional paths that followed.

Publication link intentionally inactive

The HARE book page is now designed to stand on its own as the permanent project-book home. When the final edition is published, this section can be connected directly to Amazon KDP or another publisher without redesigning the page.
